The Olympics are coming! The Olympics are coming! (see what I did there? ha!)
I (Ellen) have ALWAYS loved the Olympics! I’ve looked forward to them every time they have come around, and this year is no exception! I am already planning on sporting my awesome team U.S.A. shorts that Ashley made for me so that there’s no doubt who I’m rooting for! But I’m also completely excited that the big event is happening in Britain this year!
So in honor of the Olympics, the “Ellen & B” household has been using British accents all day long. With this international fascination, we decided it make it a theme for B’s home office! I wanted it to be cool and classy and somewhat subtle. So we decided to go with Euro themed office chairs…plus we can sit in them while we watch the Olympics! ;D
So we found these babies at Goodwill! Two blue beauties ready for some pizazz!
You start by flipping the chair over and unscrewing the seat!
Now you start taping. I used classic painter’s tape for this and had a picture of the British flag close-by the entire time for a reference! I did all my taping by eye (no measuring) but you can do whatever works best for you! At first I was afraid I was covering up too much blue background, but you have to keep in mind that what’s under the tape will be the background too!
Use an exacto knife to cut out the middle where you’ll have to paint! The key here is to think in layers!
Start painting! I used Martha Stewart all purpose/surface paint with a sponge brush so that it would stay nice and supple on the fabric!
Mine took a couple coats to get a good even base.
Without removing your original taping lines, add more tape on top of the white that will be your guide for the red!
Once you get it all taped and exacto-ed the way you want it, add the red! More coats for a deeper red! Make sure to let it dry well between each coat.
And now for the moment you’ve been waiting for….you can finally peel off all that tape and reveal your creation!! MY FAVORITE PART!
TA DA! It looks awesome! I’m so excited about our new British chairs! And B loves them too! I can’t wait to hear the songs he writes while sitting on them!
